How do we do it?

We weave quality into the very fabric of our culture, delivering excellence every step of the way. Our team takes great pride in the skilled work they do. They know that their work is integral to medical equipment that saves lives, aerospace parts that protect passengers, and military parts that defend our country.

Key performance indicators (KPIs, or departmental goals) play an integral part in ensuring our high quality thermal solutions. Each department is responsible for generating, tracking, maintaining, and reporting departmental goals. These goals directly align with the company’s overall goals.

Regular review

We have regularly scheduled management reviews and internal quality audits. We use them to discuss and review each department’s performance in detail. If a department’s KPI metrics are not achieved, we come together to find improvement opportunities and to take corrective action. However, we don’t wait for these periodic reviews if we see an issue. Managers take immediate action whenever they see problems arise, and bring in support from around the organization, as needed.

Once an improvement is put in place, we track it for success and establish new goals with higher quality expectations based on their successful implementation.

Final inspection is too late

Unlike many organizations, at Birk, quality is about much more than the final inspection process. We don’t wait for the end-product to be perfect; we ensure and create perfection along the way. Quality thermal solutions isn’t just a catchphrase, it is everything.
