Company History
Birk Manufacturing, Inc. was founded by visionary Norman Birk in 1989. With over three decades of extensive experience designing and manufacturing flexible heating elements, Norman Birk leads the overall strategic vision and professional integrity of the company. He has many innovations in the heating industry credited to his name.
Carleton Birk, Norman’s eldest son, oversees daily operations as President of the company. Carleton has been working with Birk Manufacturing off and on since high school. He spent years in a variety of roles, overseeing Birk’s progression toward higher quality standards and making investments in new technology, all while ensuring the highest standards of customer service.
1989
Birk Manufacturing started by Noman Birk in a 1,000 sqft rented facility in Stonington, CT and soon expanded to adjacent facilities (3,000 sqft). Our initial product was wire-wound silicone heaters.
1994
We moved to a 10,000 sqft facility in Old Saybrook where we started our etched foil silicone heater product line.
1999
We built a brand new 15,000 sqft building at 14 Capitol Drive, East Lyme (our current location).
2000
We laminated our first Kapton heater.
2006
We added 18,000 sqft to East Lyme facility.
2008
We earned ISO 9001 certification.
2009
We earned ISO 13485 certification.
2010
We added Butyl and Mica heaters to our product line.
2013
We earned AS9100 certification.
2015
We added Custom Temperature Sensors to our product line.
2020
We expanded the East Lyme campus with the acquisition of an additional 10,000 sqft building (for a total of 43,000 sqft).
2022
Second-generation Carleton Birk named president.
2024
We reached 160 employees.
