When you engage Birk’s full engineering support, our engineers follow a project from conception to end-product. They work directly with our production team to develop clear and concise work instructions. Our engineering team consists of Design, Manufacturing, and Quality Engineers that all work together.
Our use of Design Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (DFMEA) not only ensures that your product is produced quickly and efficiently, but it also prevents potential issues and their consequences along the way.

Design for Manufacturing
Some customers come to us with fully designed requirements which we are happy to manufacture, but many others come to Birk early in their product design lifecycle for our design and engineering expertise. For these customers, we apply our outstanding Design for Manufacturing (DFM) practices.
Our DFM process includes direct interaction and communication between your team and ours to design solutions that consider all parts of the manufacturing process from labor resources to manufacturing equipment to external processes. At the same time, our team keeps a keen eye on incorporating the highest quality standards.

Birk Manufacturing designs thousands of wire and etched-foil circuits each year to meet your specific needs. We can work around almost any need by designing holes and cutouts, multi-layer circuits, integrating sensors and fuses, and offering a variety of termination styles, shaded watt densities, dual voltage circuits, resistance taps, and more.
Birk’s heaters and thermal management solutions can be customized to meet a wide range of needs. Depending on the material, products can be customized by size, voltage, wattage, resistance, plating, lamination, shaded watt density, and much more.
Our products can also be customized with fuses, wiring, switches, cable harnesses and a wide variety of other additional services.

Thermal simulation software provides incredible insights into your project, enabling Birk engineers to prototype and iterate faster than ever. Using your application’s precise specifications (dimensions, material, boundary conditions, etc.), the simulation software produces a thermal model based on our engineers’ designs and layouts.
Our engineers have been through extensive training to get the most out of this high-tech software.
Our engineers also have the ability to design air flow simulations to determine how a range of ambient temperatures and convection currents may affect your end product.
Birk Manufacturing also specializes in complete thermal testing including harsh or extreme conditions. We offer the following testing capabilities:
- Water or ice bath immersion testing
- Hi-Pot testing for insulation integrity
- Humidity/temperature chamber testing for environmental conditions
- Sensor calibration verification testing
