Thermistors
Thermistors are sensitive temperature sensors that change their resistance based on temperature variation. Birk designs both negative temperature coefficient (NTC) and positive temperature coefficient (PTC) models. NTC thermistors decrease in resistance as the temperature increases, while PTC thermistors increase in resistance.
Thermistors provide a faster response time compared to an RTD due to their lower mass and higher sensitivity. They can detect the smallest temperature changes with high precision within a narrow temperature range. This makes them especially useful when an application requires tight temperature tolerances within a particular range, such as blood analyzers and diagnostic equipment.
Birk provides thermistors in a variety of curves. The Beta value, or curve, is a measurement of how the resistance of the thermistor changes as the temperature changes. Different applications require different curves depending on their needs.
Birk thermistors are available in a variety of resistances, curves, shapes, sizes, and can be encapsulated in materials like epoxy, ceramic, or glass.
Customized Solutions
Thermistors can be customized to fit the needs of your project.
Birk Manufacturing offers high-quality thermistors that can be customized with a wide variety of value-added options such as bolt-on, surface-mount, or probe configurations. They are ideal for applications where precise temperature control is required, specifically within a narrow temperature range.
Thermistors can be welded or soldered into heater assemblies and can be encapsulated in silicone, Kapton and epoxy.
